Seminar: Laurence Allard
“Artisanal Electronics: Digital Repair Cultures” was a mini-conference we held at July 6.
Laurence Allard (IRCAV, Paris) gave an account of the Maker Movements in France. Relying on theories developed by other researchers, she retraced the different types of events, places, approaches and values shared amongst makers. In so doing she questioned the role of repair, doing again or doing otherwise (in line with Jasmina’s Internet Women of Things) in a current context of collapsing energies. Even if the Do It Yourself movements can be considered as an alternative to some more discursive practices, one can still question the short impact that is to repair digital electronics because of the impossibility to make them durable in a long term.
